Sexual Positions and Sex Techniques

Increasing your knowledge of the various sex positions is a great way to improve your sexual satisfaction and your partner's.  Not all positions work well for all people, so trying different sex positions will let you explore your true sexuality.

Men On Top Sexual Positions and Sex Techniques

This is one of the most common and most used sexual positions, however their are numerous varieties to this position as listed below.

Standard Missionary Sex Position - The woman lies on her back, with her legs spread either flat, drawn up toward her chest, or wrapped around the man. She can wrap both or just one leg around him, and on four different levels: resting on the back of his upper shins, around his thighs, around his buttocks/back or over his shoulders. Generally, the higher she lifts her legs, the deeper the penetration.  The man lies on his stomach on top of the woman, with head and feet aligned, his legs between her legs, and his groin at the same level as hers to facilitate penetration.

Edge of Bed Missionary Sex Position – like the standard missionary sex position, but with the penetrating partner standing and the receiving partner's legs dangling over the edge of a bed or some other platform.

Blossoming Flower Missionary Sexual Position – like the standard missionary sexual position, the receiving partner is on their back, but they also spread their legs, lift their hips and arch their back; the receiving partner is literally and figuratively opening them self up to their lover, and thus allowing for deeper penetration.

Side Entry Missionary Sexual Position - In this position, the man kneels, straddling the woman's lower leg. Her upper leg is free to move, but it tends to be bent up; sometimes she holds it to her chest with her hand.

Squashing Of The Deckchair Sex Position - In this position the woman lies on her back and the man lies or kneels in alignment with the vagina or anus. The man will hold or press with his shoulder the woman's leg(s) upwards to adapt the positioning of the woman's pelvis.  This position is believed to achieves a faster more intense female orgasm.

Peace Sign Sex Position - The woman lies on her back. The man penetrates her, as in the standard missionary position. Then, the woman closes her legs and pushes them together, while the man spreads his legs over hers.  This position provides, good clitoral stimulation for the woman, deep penetration, and a tight feeling for the man.

Butterfly Sex Position - The man stands up, and the woman lies on her back, on a surface below the man's waist height.  The woman then lifts her pelvis with the man supporting her weight with his hands so that her vagina is in alignment with the man's penis.  This position is good for G-spot stimulation for the woman and excellent visual stimulation for the man.

Octopus Sexual Position – like the butterfly position only the woman rests her legs on the man shoulders.

Coital Alignment Sex Position Technique - This position is designed to maximize clitoral stimulation. The man lies above the woman as in the missionary position, but moves upward along her body, so that the base of his penis provides stimulation to her clitoris. The man and woman alternately apply pressure through their pelvis instead of traditional thrusting. The woman may also wrap her legs around his.  With this position a woman can then begin to thrust her own pelvis, repeatedly making contact between her clitoris and the base of his penis. Basically this is a rocking back and forth in sync sort of thing with the focus on the clitoris and the base of the penis rather than being all about penetration.

Stopperage Sexual Position - The woman lies on her back with a cushion beneath her buttocks, and the man kneels or lies on top of her while pressing her thighs against her chest. The vagina will be tighter and the cervix will be pushed forward, so the penis presses against the cervix when thrusting.

Yawning Position Sex Position – The woman 's legs straight up, wide apart.

Feet-on-his-shoulders Sexual Position – The man kneels while the women rests her legs on his shoulders.

Women On Top Sexual Positions and Sex Techniques

Cowgirl Sex Position - also called the reverse missionary, amazon or jackhammer.  In this position the man lies on his back or sits down in a chair of some kind while the woman sits on top of him facing him, with his body between her legs, and with her groin aligned over his to facilitate penetration.  Penetration is quite deep, and the woman can control the depth and intensity of penetration. Clitoral pressure may not be very intense for some women, but can be provided by hand, or by the man periodically semi-withdrawing and manipulating his penis against the woman's clitoris, or by other means.

Asian Cowgirl Sexual Postion – With this position the man lies on his back while the women squats, not kneels on top of the man facing him.

Reverse Cowgirl Sexual Position - also called reverse amazon.  In this position the man lies on his back while the woman sits on top of him facing away from him, with his legs between her legs, and with her groin aligned over his to facilitate penetration.  The man can enjoy the relaxing and otherwise rare opportunity of reclining and receiving pleasure without physical strain.  It allows the woman to easily stimulate her clitoris on the base of the man's penis and testicles.

Italian chandelier Sex Position – Variant on the above reverse cowgirl position with the women on top, arching her back; placing her hands on the ground.

Horizontal Sex Position – With the man on his back; the women first sits on top of the man facing away from him then lies down on her back horizontally on top of the man.

Horizontal Reverse Sexual Position – This is a variant on the above horizontal position, where the women sits on top of the man facing away from him then lies forward onto her chest horizontally on top of the man.

Female Full Control Sex Technique – This is a technique used while in the cowgirl sex position.  If the man's waist is sufficiently slim, the women while the man is fully inserted and their back arched can bring their knees under the man's back, thus providing the man support. The man in this position is essentially immobile, and the woman fully controls the sex. 

Crabwalk Sexual Position – In this position the man lies with his upper back on a low table, couch, chair or edge of bed, keeping their feet flat on the floor and back parallel to floor; the women straddles the man, also keeping their feet on floor. The women can assume any of four positions: cowgirl; reverse cowgirl; Italian chandelier; or horizontal reverse.

Men From Behind Sexual Positions and Sex Techniques

Doggy Style Sex Position - Also known as the doggy position, kitty style, or retro copulation.  The name of the position refers to the position assumed by dogs when mating.  In this position, the women crouches on all fours with her legs slightly spread, while the man penetrates her vaginally or anally from behind, either using the penis, a dildo or the fingers.  For some women this technique provides the best stimulation of the G Spot.

Leapfrog Sexual Position - This is a variant on the Doggy position and is also known as "face down ass up".   In this position the women is on all fours with her head and torso lower than the man's hips. The man penetrates her anus/vagina from behind in a kneeling position. This as with most positions in which the penetrating partner enters the receiving partner from behind, allows the penetrating partner to ensure that the receiving one, reaches a satisfactory orgasm by manually stimulating her clitoris. This position also allows the man to control his thrust speed more easily, providing the desired speed and stimulation for the women.

Froggy Sex Position – Variant on leapfrog position; the man raises his own hips above those of the women for maximum penetration.

Upright doggy Sex Technique – Variant on the doggy position where the woman kneels upright.

Upright Doggy Pull-back Sex Position – Also called the "whoa girl" position.  Variant on upright doggy, but the women's arms are pulled backwards gently at the wrists towards man.

Spread-Eagle Sex Position – Also known as the spider position.  In this position the women lies or her stomach, legs spread open while the man lies on top.

Sexual Spoons Position – This is a popular sexual position and intimate cuddling technique.  The name derives from the way that two spoons may be positioned side by side, with their bowls aligned.  In this position the man lies on his side, with his knees bent while the woman lies on her side, with her back pressed against his front, her legs slightly parted, her hips tilted to one side, and her knees bent. They line up to align his penis with her vagina, and his penis is then guided into her vagina from the rear. It is also possible to use this position for anal sex rather than vaginal sex.  This position allows for a great deal of physical intimacy, as the full-body contact allows both partners to cuddle and caress one another. Low-intensity sex can go on for a long time in this position.

Reverse Peace Sign Position – Variant of peace sign, in this position the women lies face down, knees held together.

Inverted Missionary Sexual Position – In this position the women lies face down with her legs spread, the man enters while the women lies on her stomach.  This sex technique provides a good opportunity to stimulation the man's testicles, or the man can reach around and stimulate the clitoris.

Camel Ride/Camel-Style Sex Position – In this position the women lies on her side with the uppermost leg forward. The man kneels astride the receiver's lowermost leg, thus gaining access to either vagina or anus. Good for pregnancy, or for overweight partners. Experiment, as one side usually gives better alignment than the other for any given pairing.

The Screw Sex Position – The woman lies on edge of a bed or couch with legs bent to one side, pulled slightly toward her chest; the man stands and penetrates from the rear. Very effective for women with orgasm difficulties.
